About a quarter way through my first playthrough of pokemon X, I realized that I really liked the skeleton of a plot that this game set up, and that it would make a pretty cool story to flesh out and build. By then I was too far in to want to START writing it, though. I just started my second playthrough a couple days ago, and I really want to try and put the story into words.
This is probably the only part that I’ll post here, though. :’)
When my mother was my age she was already racing rhyhorns. She’d been thirteen when she set out on her pokemon journey - about the typical age at the time. When my grandfather was my age, he’d already beaten the gym circuit and was thinking about opening a gym of his own (a plan that was quickly abandoned in favour of a ponyta farm). He’d gotten his bulbasaur at age ten.
It’s a different generation now, and a different region to boot. People don’t become trainers the minute their age strikes double digits these days. No, it’s expected that you devote a bit more of your life to education and growth before you strike out on a cross-country trek with a little bundle of teeth and claws as your only companion. Maybe people just got too uncomfortable with the idea. Maybe one too many children went missing, or found themselves at the wrong end of an angry mother ursaring.
(For posterity’s sake, there probably isn’t a ‘right’ end of an angry mother ursaring.)
